Minor Blue Dragon Combination (Xiao Qing Long Tang)        


Minor Blue Dragon Combination (Xiao Qing Long Tang) is a classic traditional Chinese herbal formula which originated from Shang Han Lun ( Treatise on Febrile Diseases, 206 ). This formula is used for both acute surface conditions and chronic disorders, both of which require a warming action. It is the top and most important formula listed in Shang Han Lun for treating allergic rhinitis, it is also the first choice for treating asthma in children in Japan.

Daily dosage of 7.5 grams of final product contain the following ingredients:

FUNCTIONS

Relieves exterior wind-cold, warms the body, expels damp, prevents coughing and asthma.

CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

Traditional: Exterior wind-cold with damp retention, intragastric water stagnancy;  chills,  fever, aversion to cold, anhidrosis, body ache, vomiting, no sweating, no thirst, asthmatic cough or labored breathing, cough with watery and frothy sputum, decreased urine output, occasional chills in the back, facial and extremities edema.

Modern: Common cold, influenza, bronchial or humoral strider, chills,  fever, no sweating, no thirst, running nose, sinus, heavy head, headache, allergic rhinitis, whooping cough, pulmonary asthma, cough with phlegm, asthma, bronchitis, bronchiectasia, pleuritis, heart failure, infantile acute nephritis, edema due to early nephritis, swelling due to common cold accompanied by cough.

CAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS

Use with caution in cases with hypertension. This formula should not be used long-term, nor for conditions with heat, coughing of blood, coughing due to yin deficiency.
